May 5, 1860

Mary Brewster did not make any journal entries between April 30 – May 8, 1849.

Mary Lawrence, [Sat.] May 5 [1860]: “Moderate winds. We get along very slowly. Still I can hardly realize that we are so near home. I am nightly with my friends in dreams and nightly see and converse with my dear father. I tremble when I think what other changes there may be in store for us. But the divine promise that ‘as our day is so shall our strength be’ is as true now as when first uttered if we will trust him ‘who doeth all things well.’ Made 120 miles the last twenty-four hours. Raised a ship in the afternoon a long way ahead bound in the same direction as ourselves, which was thought might be a whaler.”
