30th March 1860

Mary Brewster, FRIDAY MARCH 30th [1849]: “The last thirteen days we have had fine weather. This morning we made a the Island of Loochoo [Lu-chu; Okinawa Sima] which belongs to the Japanese. Towards night spoke the ship Cossack Capt. Barker said ship seems to sail at about our rate — The evening is very pleasant and all seem to be peaceable and still on board —   LAT. 26.00   LONG. 128.12.”


Mary Lawrence, [Thurs.] MARCH 30 [1860]: “Good weather with a heavy sea, the effects of yesterday’s gale. Found by observations we had made 480 miles the last three days.”
