December 26, 1859

Remaining 1848 journal entries of Mary Brewster will be posted for December 27-31.

Mary Lawrence’s next journal entries will be posted for December 27 and 28. After that, for the remaining month of December, there is only one additional entry for December 31, 1859.

Mary Lawrence wrote [Wed.] DECEMBER 26 [1859]: “The Lagoda nearby. Captain Willard lowered his boat and came on board in the afternoon.”

Eliza Williams, her husband and their two children, aboard the Florida anchored safely in San Francisco Bay on the afternoon of October 26, 1861; ending a three-year whaling voyage.



  1. A half-scale model of the Lagoda is at the New Bedford Whaling Museum, the largest ship model in the world.
