October 2, 1859

Mary Brewster did not make a journal entry for this date in 1848.

Mary Lawrence, [Sun.] OCTOBER 2 [1859]: “Moderate breezes from the south today. Raised whales immediately after breakfast, lowered the boats, and gave chase to them. In the course of the forenoon about a dozen whales had made their appearance, but they were exceedingly wild, and not a boat could get near them. We send but three boats out now, as out second mate is off duty and has been for nearly two weeks. Cause: a disturbance between him and the mate. Nearly calm throughout the day.”

Eliza Williams did not make a journal entry for this date in 1861.
