August 25, 1859

Mary Brewster did not make any journal entries from August 17-September 4, 1848.

Mary Lawrence, [Thurs.] AUGUST 25 [1859]: “A strong breeze and rugged. Lowered twice for whales. Mr. Huntley got almost within darting distance of one. Had he pouted once more, I think he would have been ours. Passed close by the William C. Nye. Captain Soule performed some curios capers on his house for our benefit, probably showing his indignation because we were boiling and he was not. Spoke the Covington; nothing since we saw him. We heard of the America, Speedwell, and William Gifford gamming several nights since. I wish the Addison had been amongst them. Saw one ship take a whale today.”

Eliza Williams did not make any journal entries from August 22-26, 1861.
