31st May [1859 and 1861]

Mary Brewster’s journal for her voyage from 1845 – 1848 ended on March 8, 1848 when the Tiger arrived home (Stonington, CT). Mary and her husband, Samuel did not return to sea for their last voyage until June 1848. However, Mary’s journal-writing did not resume until July 13, 1848. Therefore, Mary Brewster’s entries will resume on this blog starting July 13, 2013.

Mary Lawrence, [Tues.] May 31 [1859]: “Two ships in sight. Saw the Good Return’s boats down chasing whales without success. Pleasant weather with the exception of a little fog some part of the day.”

Eliza Williams made sporadic journal entries during May 1861. She made the following entry for [Sun.] May 30th [1861]: “My Husband has been turning me a rolling Pin of yellow Ebony. It is very pretty. Tonight we are off what is called the Wood Lands.”
