20th March 1859

Mary Brewster’s journal for her voyage from 1845 – 1848 ended on March 8, 1848 when the Tiger arrived home (Stonington, CT). Mary and her husband, Samuel did not return to sea for their last voyage until June 1848. However, Mary’s journal-writing did not resume until July 13, 1848.

Mary Lawrence, [Sun.] MARCH 20 [1859]: “Nothing of interest has occurred this past week. Moderate winds have prevailed. Have been expecting the trades daily, but they kept back until last night, when they made their appearance accompanied by squalls and some rain, the first we have had for nearly three months. Today there is a strong breeze, and the gallant Addison carries us on at the rate of eight knots towards our destined port.”

Eliza Williams did not make any journal entries from Feb. 27 – Mar. 25, 1861.
