March 13, 1859

Mary Brewster’s journal for her voyage from 1845 – 1848 ended on March 8, 1848 when the Tiger arrived home (Stonington, CT). Mary and her husband, Samuel did not return to sea for their last voyage until June 1848. However, Mary’s journal-writing did not resume until July 13, 1848.

Mary Lawrence, [Sun.] MARCH 13 [1859]: “Saw nothing but humpbacks, so decided to shape our course for the Islands, which we did accordingly. There was a head sea and quite strong breeze, which made it very uncomfortable. A number on board were seasick, but it made no difference to Minnie and myself, although we had been laying at anchor over two months.”

Eliza Williams did not make any journal entries from Feb. 27 – Mar. 25, 1861.
