August 19 [1847 and 1858]

Mary Brewster, THURSDAY [Aug.] 19th [1847]: “Early this morning Mrs. Winslow rode up to Lahainaluna. I took care of the children which much amused me. Middle part of the day ‘Sail he cried’ – 2 ships arrived, Brooklyn and Ann, last 250 this season. So they begin to come and things quite lively. Some business and much noise, I hope the Tiger will be next, how long the days appear — I feel as though I could not endure it to have ship after ship coming before the long wished one appears — how heavily hangs the time, how impatient I feel, surely before long said ship will come.”

Mary Lawrence, [Thur.]  AUGUST 19 [1858]: “A calm through the morning and no whales in sight. P.M. Spoke the Baltic. Captain Brownson came on board and passed the afternoon. He has taken three whales since we saw him, which makes him six the season. Towards night quite a strong breeze sprang up. Saw no whales for the day.”

Eliza Williams did not make a journal entry for this date in 1860.
