18th January [1847, 1858 and 1860]

Mary Brewster, MONDAY [Jan.] 18th [1847]: “For the last two days the sea breeze has been very strong so our boats have not been able to get fast [successfully harpooned a whale].   Knitting and reading has taken up my mind all day.”

Mary Lawrence, [Mon.] JANUARY 18 [1858]: “A thick fog again this morning. Had some trouble with one of the forward hands, which ended in confining him in the run. Such things are very unpleasant to me. He has been down there once before during the voyage, and I hoped that would be sufficient fo him, but it seems that it has proved otherwise. In the afternoon a hard rainstorm.”

Eliza Williams did not make any journal entries between Jan. 14-18, 1860.
