January 17 [1847 and 1858]

Mary Brewster, SUNDAY [Jan.] 17th [1847]: “Fresh sea breezes all day, weather rather cool. Have been reading and writing during the day. Capt. Mallory and Bottum both on board. The boats off but for a day or two have not taken a whale.”

Mary Lawrence, [Sun.] JANUARY 17 [1858]: “Another strong breeze with some rain, and very thick. Saw some indications of whales, so Samuel thought it best to lay to and not go over the [whaling] ground in a fog. Have been confined to my bed for two days with the pain in my head and face. The sore broke this afternoon, so that I thin I shall soon get over it.”

Eliza Williams did not make any journal entries between Jan. 14-18, 1860.
