November 17, 1846

Mary Brewster, TUESDAY [Nov.] 17th [1846]: “Commenced with light airs and good weather and continued through the day. A number of birds round the ship and the land in sight as we are sailing the coast down and looking for whale. My work usually occupies my mind and time till 4 in the afternoon. I then knit or read till tea after which I go on deck for a few moments, read till 8, then pass an hour on deck if the weather is good and 9 or 10, usually retire.”

Martha Brown’s journal entries ended on Nov. 11, 1848, when she was reunited with her husband who finally returned to Hawaii after being about six weeks overdue.

Mary Lawrence did not make any journal entries for November 16-17, 1857.

Eliza Williams did not make any journal entries between Nov. 17-25, 1859.
