Mary Brewster, TUESDAY SEPT 29th [1846]: “Busy all day in preparing to go on board the ship, packed up my things, made a few calls and spent the day very pleasantly. Took tea and at half past 5 left the dear family where I had enjoyed myself so well and was soon on shipboard. Engaged all this evening in arranging my apartments [on board ship] expecting to have the company of Mr. Waldo as far as Maui and Mary Ann Hoyer we are to take to Honolulu to go to school. So ends this day. Not a breath of air stirring, very warm and sultry below.”
